The village and its immediate environs allows for direct participation in organic farming, as well as seasonal activities as the villagers harvest the produce from the fields and orchards. The villagers are also expert collectors of mountain produce, such as select mushrooms, herbs and berries and the visitors in our hotel are most welcome to join in these communal activities. The harvest is then processed for the year, as grapes are squeezed into extract and dried to paste, wheat and other grains and processed through traditional means to make pesah (dry/yeastless bread) for the winter months, jams and preserves are boiled, and fruit and vegetables are lined up to be dried under the sun.
There are also activities for those who suffer from specific ailments such as romatism and arthiritis that the villagers themselves are accustomed to for many centuries. The best cure for any chronical pain caused by rheumatism, arthritis, fybromyalgia, skin disorders, digestion problems, respiratory disorders and more is the natural waters and hot-water pools available in the area. The hotel staff would arrange for tours and visits to these natural spas for our visitors to facilitate daily baths for cures.
Part of the beauty of the village area is that the unique geological make-up of the area as well as the volcanic stones used to build the ancient houses marking the village as a spectacular historical site allow for unmatched opportunities for historical and nature photography. Our staff at the hotel would be happy to arrange for dawn and dusk tours for photography to the mountain-top behind the village as well as valley tours to allow for the best light to be used for your nature-photography-taking sessions.
If you wish to discover the area on foot or on a mountain-bike, enjoying the quiet and the stark nature of the fields and valleys, with incredible vistas
unfolding in front of your eyes, we will arrange for mountain bike rentals and maps for the region.
The village itself imposes NOTHING on our guests as there are no shops to sell anything, or no merchants at your doorsteps. The idea is for you to rest, enjoy the air, the sun, the quiet, and the history and life style that comes with the village itself. However, on the weekly market in the nearby town of Urgup, you can also see many different kinds of merchants, farmers from the mountains who come to sell their fresh fruit and vegetables, herbs, as well as unique samples of ironware and textile.
The village culture is based on helpfullness, hospitality, respect for nature, cuisine, and faith in family and local culture. The villagers welcome the guests to our house as one of their own. You could enjoy an evening time spent among them drinking Turkish tea, tasting local treats, talking about the daily and seasonal routines of the village life, the history of the area, and relaxing amongst the people of the very region without being treated as an outsider. |
